I can't wait for the indoor shows again!! Somehow it doesn't seem right to have to kit ourselves out with raincoats, weatherproof shoes and umbrellas instead of sunglasses, parasols and suncream.

Well we arrived at Bournemouth on 9th August suitable attired for the wet day ahead - thank god for dog show trolleys with made to measure waterproof covers. (Actually I can remember the days when we arrived at the shows with the Old English Sheepdogs; we would start walking in with them clinging onto our shoulders.....Gordon managed okay but by the time I arrived just in the nick of time at the benches the one I was carrying had always managed to slide further and further down as it got heavier and heavier with the feet finishing just fractions from the mud.....and me just ready for the oesteopath!!) Anyway going back to what I was really trying to tell you is that at Bournemouth (Judge Mr G Kerr) the results for Cotonkiss were as follows: Best Dog Cotonkiss Versace, Best Bitch and Best of Breed Cotonkiss Vienetta, Reserve Best Bitch Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden.

On Friday 29th we travelled to City of Birmingham Ch. Show under Judge Anne Arch, our results were as follows; 1st Junior Dog Cotonkiss Versace, 1st Open Bitch and Best Bitch Cotonkiss Vienetta; we got pipped for Best of Breed by Burt Easdon's Peke who then went on to win the Toy Group. (BTW amazingly enough we had beautiful weather this day!)

Amongst torrential rain and storms we battled our way to Richmond - this time I was without dogs, I had the pleasure to be the judge this day for the Coton de Tulear. (no stress the day before preparing the dogs!).

Last Sunday 7th September the Coton Club held its 3rd breed club open show; it was a really enjoyable show. Unfortunately our original judge had to cancel due to unforseen circumstances so Judge Mr Howard Ogden kindly agreed to stand in at short notice. It was a really fun day and everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was lovely to meet some new people who are in the breed and others who just wanted to find out more about these little dogs. I took out Cotonbrie Oh Sole Mio for a day out - he is 10 years old now and just loved showing in the veteran class; loads of people have heard of him but not so many have met him over the past few years since I retired him; however the judge seemed impressed that he still had all his teeth! and he moved just as well as he did in his prime and was awarded Best Dog in Show. Best in Show was won by a very pretty female Cotonkiss Angel of Grace owned by Tony Sherer - this was her first time in the showring .. I think she amazed herself and her owners that day and went home armed with rosettes and prizes. Chris and her helpers in the kitchen set a feast to be proud - all of you that didn't manage to get there don't realise what you were missing. Hopefully next year we will see more of you there either showing or spectating but definitely ... a fab day is planned again on Sunday 17th October next year.

I am back!!

One asks how does one manage to fit everything into their short life? quite simply there is not enough time ... so apologies to you all if you have sneaked back to the blog to see what has been happening. I shall endeavour to enlighten you.

20th June - Blackpool Championship Show - Judge Geoffrey Davis

28th and 29th June - Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll wins Green Stars at Kilkenny and Waterford.

4th July - WORLD DOG SHOW SWEDEN - Judge Agnes Ganami (Isreal)
1st Open Bitch and RCAC Cotonkiss Vienetta, 3rd Open Bitch Cotonkiss Calico, 2nd Intermediate Bitch Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden, 3rd Junior Dog Cotonkiss Calvin Klein.

5th & 6th July - Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll wins Green Star and BOB at Irish LKA.

6th July - We had a very interesting day at the PRA FUNd Raising Weekend held by the Enthusiasts & Fanciers of Glens (Glen of Imaal Terriers) at Jean Rogers home where we met a lovely crowd who had lots of interesting information to pass on!! Prof. Peter Bedford was there doing eye testing which was really handy so we took the opportunity of taking a whole bunch of cotons for their annual eye test. The talk on the "Bochum Projet" was also very interesting and this was followed by a fun afternoon.

14th July - Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll BOB AVNSC and Toy Group 2 at Ballymena & District.

16th July - Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll received her Junior Championship Title from the Irish Kennel Club.

2nd August - Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden wins Green star and BOB at Bangor & North Down Ch. Show.

3rd August - Cotonkiss Versache wins CACIB, Green Star and BOB at Dun Laoghaire Canine Society International Show with Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden taking CACIB and Best Opposit Sex. Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll taking the Green Star and Reserve Best of Breed.

Irish Kennel Club International Championship Show

Cotonkiss Versace wins Best of Breed and his first green star under toy breed specialist Laurent Heinesche (Luxemburg).
We had entered the Ireland's most prestigious show of the year this weekend, but with the birth of Tutti's babies it was not possible for us to attend. However late on Thursday night I bathed out Versace and packed his bags and arrangements were made for Margaret to collect him on route to the ferry for her to handle him for me.
A huge thank you Margaret for showing him so well.
Best Bitch went to Cotonkiss Pussycat doll.....this now notches up 5 green stars for her. Reserve Best Bitch went to Cotonkiss IWannabe at Cotonden.
Everyone is back home now, safe and sound but very tired!!!!

Friday saw the arrival of two baby girls and one baby boy. Mum Tutti is doing well and taking her maternal duties with great diligence. We are very excited about this litter so keep watching this space.

We are in the middle of the show season at the moment so spare time is hard to come by because of all the travelling that we have to do. Anyhow congratulations to the Cotonkiss crowd you are doing so well - here are the results that I am aware of over the past couple of weeks.

Last weekend we all travelled to the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show in Edinburgh where Cotonkiss Vienetta took Best of Breed followed by being chosen in the final 8 of the Toy Group under Zena Thorn-Andrews - this being a huge compliment from a judge of this calibre and only the second time that a coton has been chosen in the final of an all breed championship show (the first time it was also the same female). Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden finished the day with Reserve Best Bitch, Cotonkiss Versace won his Junior class followed by Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll in 2nd, Cotonkiss Carte Blanche going Best Puppy.

At Coventry Kennel Association the day after Annie and Clive Lorton went home very happy after winning Best of Breed with Cotonkiss Tiger Lily. On this very same day Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll finished the weekend by wining the best bitch and green star at Hibernian All Breed International Show in Ireland.

This weekend we stayed at home and tried to catch up on things but again we have had news from the little Cotonkisses - Cotonkiss Carte Blache had a great day at the Scottish Toy Dog show by winning Best Puppy and Best of Breed, Reserve Best Puppy in Show and being pulled out in the final line-up for best in show. Cotonkiss Pussycat Dog is certainly shining brightly at the moment she went to the Irish Toy Dog Society under a renowned French Coton Judge
M. Dupas and was graded excellent and awarded Best of Breed and the green star.

Vienetta does it in France!

We left here at 9.00 p.m. on Friday evening all packed up ready for our expedition to a dog show at Amiens in France. The weather was good, just right for travelling and the roads pretty quiet. First stop the Channel Tunnel, Folkestone; we just had time to stretch our legs and grab a coffee before being directed onto the train. For anyone who hasn't done the Chunnel before, it is so quick, around 30 minutes and you are in France.

We arrived at our destination at 6 a.m. The doors or rather the gates didn't open until 8 a.m. and after trying to get through the only open gate at the same time as the whole of the French dog fanciers we eventually found our hall and a nice grooming area.

It was a beautiful day, it started a bit chilly but by mid morning the sun had really got hot. The french were very hospitable and it was lovely to see some familiar faces.

It will be a day to remember ... Cotonkiss Calvin Klein won Junior Dog, Best Junior and Best Dog and Cotonkiss Vienetta came up trumps, she won Open Bitch, Best Bitch, Best of Breed and placed Group 2 in the Toy Group.

Cotonkiss Angel of Grace

Tony and Aina Sherer visited us this afternoon with their puppy Cotonkiss Angel of Grace aka 'Rosie' who is now 7 months and who I haven't seen since she left us when she was a tiny baby.
Tony and Aina are not new to cotons, in fact they have owned Cotons longer than anyone else in this country; however this is their first show dog. I think Aina (who is chiefly responsible for the bathing and grooming) has been quietly watching how everything is done when she has been spectating at the shows as little Rosie has been brushed and bathed religiously and is an absolute credit to them. We gave her a little bath and brushed her up while she was here with us this afternoon and took a couple of photos......what do you think?

Unfortunately she didn't go to UK Toydog because Tony and Aina had a wedding to go to but she will surely be out sometime in the near future.

CATCHING UP ON THINGS
There is so much news to catch up on - I can't go into details but apologies to everyone who has come back over the last month to see what has been happening - now at last I am able to do stuff again on the website and hopefully bring you up to date with things.

CRUFTS 2008
Thanks to everyone for all your compliments and congratulations that you sent to me and Vienetta on our fabulous Best of Breed win at Crufts; and a big thank you to the judge Ms Elisabetta de Luca for thinking so highly of her.

It was a fantastic day and probably the only time that I have remained quiet for any length of time much to my husband's delight.....amazing what nerves can do!!! Cotonkiss had a great day with their results ... Special Junior Dog 1st and Best Dog Cotonceilidh Mr Bojangles of Wydewyche (I am seriously delighted with this result; even though I didn't breed this dog he is one of the offspring from a female that I bred called 'Cotonkiss Faberge' and sired by my dog Uniquement de L'echo des Elingues), 2nd Cotonkiss Calvin Klein, 3rd Cotonkiss Versace handled by Margaret Harvey. Post Graduate Dog 1st Cotonceilidh Tartan Terror (again this dog was bred by Kathryn Solley but he is one of the offspring from 'Cotonkiss Icemaiden' and again sired by Uniquement). Special Junior Bitch 2nd Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll who went on to win the Best Puppy award. Post Graduate Bitch 1st Cotonkiss Iwannabe at Cotonden. Open Bitch 1st and Best of Breed Cotonkiss Vienetta.
It was an honour respresenting the breed in the main ring at the end of the day and an experience that I will never forget.

UK TOYDOG
Another really successful day for Cotonkiss under French judge Sylvie Desserne; this time Bojangles and Vienetta swapped places for BOB and RBOB. It was a lovely day seeing some new puppies making their debut. Cotonkiss Carte Blanche was awarded Best Puppy, bless him he did so well going around the big ring at the end of the day in the Puppy Group but you could see he was tired as was his human mum.....just have to say though that they did drive from Montrose to Stafford for this show so it is not surprising.

Will be back again soon with some gossip hopefully.

Thanks for the info Jane - second time out and little Cotonkiss Carte Blanche aka Louis went to East of Scotland Canine Club Open Show in Edinburgh today and won Special Best Minor Puppy in Group, the judge was Mrs J Peters (Jepechis).

Majella and Columbo

I am sorry folks but you will get used to me - this blog will be like waiting for a bus - nothing for a while and then 2 or 3 come along together!!!!!

Well at last Majella was put out of her misery when at last she was allowed to collect her baby 'Columbo' on Wednesday. Even though her visit was short we had a great time, the dogs adored her and didn't even mind Coco either visiting too (Coco being the first Coton ever to live in Ireland, I had sold Coco to Majella's friends around 3 years ago and because she was travelling by herself had decided to hijack Coco and take him along for the ride to keep her company). We spent all evening just doing dog stuff - learning to bath and dry her puppy, playing and bonding. We did some video which will appear a little later when I get a bit of time.

Majella Murphy an up and coming irish singer/songwriter and nominated for the meteor awards this year. Keep a listen out because when she gets some time to herself she has promised to write a Coton song for my website - I can't wait! Meanwhile come and listen to some of her music at:-

Dogs Monthly

Margaret telephone me a few days ago and asked if I knew there was an article published in the Dogs Monthly glossy magazine this month written by David Cavill. I had no idea that this article was going to be published but very pleasantly surprised to see my dogs featured. The photographs included my International and Italian Champion Cotonbrie Oh Sole Mio at Cotonkiss, one of him standing by himself and another being shown by my swedish kennel maid Tanja. The photograph featuring two Cotons (Best Dog and Best Bitch at United Kingdom Toy Dog Show and top dog and top bitch 2007) were French and Junior World Champion Tutti Frutti de mas des Freux at Cotonkiss handled by myself and Uniquement de L'echo des Elingues at Cotonkiss handled for me by Karra Lawson. The photograph of Karra with Cotonkiss Valentino (top Coton in 2006) is a son of Tutti Frutti and Uniquement.

Earthquake

Did you hear about the earthquake that we experienced here at around 1 am on Tuesday morning? Thank you to everyone for contacting us to find out if we were okay; we were fine albeit a bit shaky at the time. It turned out that we were only about 20 miles from the epicentre which they say was at Market Rasen. I have to admit that I was quite scared when it happened - I was in my grooming room brushing out Calvin (I often groom in the early hours as it is so lovely and peaceful with no interuptions) I could not believe it – everywhere shook, it was like a huge juggernaut was passing close by, I thought my room was going to collapse! The dogs just couldn’t believe it - they just sat up as though glued to the spot (some reports said that the animals around them were all making a noise but mine were deadly silent). Gordon was in the house and he said the whole house shook too and all the pipes where rattling and things were moving! The strangest thing was that Calvin was being really naughty while I was grooming him for about an hour before it happened which was out of character for him, not wanting to lay down and shaking...he must have known that something was going to happen because he is never normally like that?

Anyway it was certainly an experience, but I hope one that won’t repeat itself too soon.

At last the freezing cold weather has retreated, thank god! I was sure that at some point I was going to get frostbite; can anyone tell me why the dogs still love going out in the fresh air somehow oblivious of the temperature?
Not long now until Crufts! Every year we say well Crufts is here again - just another show (so matter of fact)....but the nearer it gets the more of a buzz it seems and by the time it is actually upon us we are jibbering wrecks (I am of course speaking for myself - maybe some of you could let me know if you go through the same emotions and why we put ourselves through it every year - me since 1981 and still it never gets better ;-) For any of you who do not know, Crufts is held at The NEC, Birmingham on 6th 7th 8th and 9th March; the Cotons will be shown on the first day; however anyone wishing to meet the breed will be able to see them first hand and chat with Coton owners everyday at the Discover Dogs breed booth.
I have been spending the last week starting to get ready for the show - grooming, training, preparing stuff for the Discover Dogs breed stand; and remember if anybody wants to participate on the breed stand let me know it is still not too late.
We have a couple of interesting shows coming up with breed specialist judging at both; Eli de Luca (Italy) who many of you will already be familiar with at Crufts and Sylvie Desserne (France) judging us at UK Toydog.
Must go now; I will try to be back as soon as I can.

The blogger returns - bleary eyed!!

I can't believe that it was so late when I eventually worked out how to blog yesterday - in fact I put on the photo of the sunset late last night but it was posted at about 3 am this morning ... how mad am I?

Oh by the way I have news that this weekend Cotonkiss Carte Blanche, just six months old made his debut...14 in the any variety puppy class and he came second! that is really great well done Jane; I can't wait to see him at UK Toydog, he has a long trip that day all the way from Montrose. Jane must have thought that it was a breeze (all apart from the grooming bit) because she is normally known for shifting around the ring with a newfy probably ending up with a dislocated shoulder ;-)

The weekend before was pretty good news all round, everyone came out from the cobwebs after Christmas - Shonalisa sent me news that Cotonkiss Pussycat Doll (see photo) won AV puppy and puppy Group 2 at Sydenham & District Canine Club; Cotonkiss Versace won at Dumfries, Cotonkiss Calvin Klein won BOB out of 11 entries at Newark.

I will be back later with some more news - mind you I have a terrible memory.

Hi and welcome to my Blog. This is new for me as I have never blogged before. I hope to bring you my news and views and bits and pieces (doggy and non doggy) and hope that you will enjoy visiting me here.
